Star Wars Lego Cake (My first cake order)

I never started out trying to make cakes for people,  I started out trying to make cakes for myself so I wouldn't have to pay someone else to do it.  I've always loved baking so making my children's Birthday cakes has always been something I enjoy and look forward to, four times every year.  I still don't think I want to have my own cake making business.  I have too many interests to narrow it down to making cakes, but if someone is kind enough to ask then I'm happy to do it.

I made a Star Wars Lego cake what seems eons ago (six months ago) and I was really happy with it.  It was for my son Myles 6th Birthday party.  He adores Star Wars Lego's so I was determined to make him an outstanding cake.  I found tons of images of adorable intricate Lego cakes on the internet but I knew that my skills were limited so I had to keep it fairly simple.  Myles was happy with this cake and really didn't care what it looked or tasted like as long as it had Lego guys on it.

Looking back at this cake I see many things I could have done better, so when a friend of a friend asked me to make a Star Wars Lego cake for her sons birthday I couldn't wait to try and improve on my earlier version.

I've become much more comfortable with fondant so this cake had more fondant decorations on it than my last one.  I am pretty happy with it and in some ways amazed that I went from the first cake to this one in six months.  When Myles saw the cake he asked if it was his birthday.  I think it confused him just a bit.

I'm really happy that I was able to show the Lego Star Wars theme on the cake without using actual Lego guys.  I'd say I've come quite a ways in 6 months.  My only regret is that I didn't get to see the look on the birthday boys face.  That is the only downfall of making cakes for others.  Otherwise I had a blast doing it.

May the Force be with you...

    1. Thanks for stopping by. Wow I thought we had a lot of Easter baskets in our house but you put me to shame. I know my 11 year old would probably not be thrilled with a bunny cake but if it tasted good he wouldn't complain.
