Donckers candy and confections

I recently went to visit my home town of Marquette, Michigan.  It's such a beautiful city, rich with history and natural beauty, nestled along the coast of Lake Superior.  While I was wandering around downtown I was delighted to see the old Donckers candy store open for business.

There's something so comforting about places that were familiar to you as a child welcoming you home after so many years.

One step into the store and you travel back in time.  The original benches are still in the back where you can lounge about and play board games or sip a cream soda.

The soda spouts stand proudly behind the counter where the soda fountain is still open for business.

Even the tin paneled ceiling is there just as beautiful as ever.

There is also a quaint little restaurant upstairs with a wide assortment of sandwiches, salads and soups.  But it's a candy shop and I didn't go there for the sandwiches.

Beautiful truffles in so many decadent flavors!

Such a wide assortment of candies and chocolates it was difficult to choose.

So if you ever happen to find yourself in Marquette in the deep woods of upper Michigan.  You really should stop by Donckers and try their candy or soda or ice cream or a sandwich.  Just don't expect to leave empty handed.

Or if you don't feel like traveling quite that far you may order online and experience their delicious confections at home.
